Assistant Superintendent's Message

I am eager to see what the 2020-2021 school year brings as we head back to school. We all have a new normal, and it is my goal to ensure that the School City of Whiting continues to provide opportunities for all students to collaborate, create, and engage in their world in order to be productive members of society.

Last year Whiting High School experienced academic success with Mr. Nichols and Ms. Markovich nominated as teacher finalists for AP TIP IN teacher of the year in science and English respectively, and Whiting High School recognized as AP TIP IN’s school of the year. AP classes allow students to tackle college-level work while still in high school and earn college credit and placement.

Ms. Selene Giron was recognized for the 2019-2020 College Board Counselor Recognition Program for her exemplary work as a professional school counselor who is a proven lifelong learner, collaborator, advocate and data-driven counselor, committed to student access. Ms. Giron was one of 11 counselors in Indiana recognized by College Board for this honor.

The School City of Whiting continues to offer many opportunities for academic and social and emotional success as we focus on educating the whole child through career awareness and career development.

I continue to enjoy working in the School City of Whiting where kids come first and where teachers and staff believe that all students can be successful.

I hold a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University, a Master’s in Educational Administration from Indiana University and an Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University. I have been in administration for 16 years at the building and central office level.
