Don't forget that tomorrow, Friday, May 20th, is Bike to School Day! The City of Whiting has donated special bags for every student who walks or rides their bike to school on that day and the INDOT will be coming to speak to our K-2 students about bike safety and bringing every kindergartner, first grader, and second grader a new bike helmet! We will also be drawing names to give away four brand new bikes! So be sure to get those wheels pumped up and bikes cleaned off to ride to school on Friday! If you are a car rider, you can get dropped off by the Little League fields and we have high school students and staff who will be walking students down to Nathan Hale. Bus riders will be dropped off by the football parking lot and also walk with supervision. We're looking forward to a great morning!
This week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week and is a great opportunity to tell the teachers and staff in the SCW how much they are appreciated. A few quick words or sentences from you or your child is a great way to let them know how much you appreciate all that they do. If you'd like to share something about a specific teacher or a group of teachers or staff, please fill out the form below and we will make sure it gets to the appropriate staff member to let them know how much they're appreciated. Thank you! https://forms.gle/LquZzDCn2bcvxZE36
SCW families- the phone lines are currently down due to yesterday's brief power outage. We are working to resolve the issue. Thank you!

We have yummy treats to make that look like band-aids and an opportunity for families to try an Escape Room! All students who attend will receive a lab coat and other surprises so don't miss out and we hope to see you tomorrow!

Today is November 11th and it is Veteran’s Day. A veteran is a former member of the armed services or military. Branches of the military include the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, and veterans may have served during times of war or peace. Perhaps a member of your family is currently serving in the military. Or maybe a grandfather, aunt or distant cousin is retired from the armed forces. Or maybe you have a teacher who has served in the National Guard, like Ms. Burriss. We know that it is a sacrifice, as they leave their families to serve our country to protect our freedoms. So To all veterans of all branches: Thank you for your sacrifice, your bravery, and the example you set for us all. In short, thank you for your service! To all those who have served, and those who continue to serve… Happy Veterans Day! Please watch the short video below created by Ms. Burriss to honor some of our student's family members who have served or are serving in the military. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-srXMUhEJBk

REMINDER For full-time eLearning students ONLY! For students who are doing eLearning full time and not coming in at all in person, you will need to pick up second quarter materials. We will have a pick up TODAY, October 20th from 3:15-5:15 pm in the staff parking lot. This will be similar to our first round of material pick up, where parents stay in the car and pull up to the table by Door 10. I will pass you the materials through the window. Students need these materials for the second quarter, so it's important that they get picked up. Again, this is ONLY for those students who are doing eLearning full time and not coming to school.
Just a reminder that today is an Early Release Day! Every Wednesday is an early release day and Nathan Hale students get out at 2:00. WMS and WHS students dismiss at 2:20. NWEA Testing This Week! We know today was tough for some of you trying to get into the NWEA practice test. While we know it can be frustrating, please be patient as we work out the kinks and device issues. If for any reason you continue to have problems while testing tomorrow, let the teacher know and we can always schedule another time for your child while we work out the bugs. Also, an important reminder that when your child is taking the test, do not help him or her solve the problems. The purpose of this assessment is to determine where they are at academically so that we can best support them instructionally. Similar to the iReady math diagnostic, the test is adaptive, meaning that the questions adjust to how the student is answering; if the student misses so many items in a row, the questions will start to get easier. If the student answers them correctly, the questions will get harder. It's important that students answer the questions themselves so we know their current level. Both iReady and NWEA will create individual learning paths for students to work on independently, and if you help students with the answers, their learning paths will not be appropriate for their instructional level. Thank you!
Good morning! Today is Monday, August 31st and check out our weekly announcements, including birthdays, below! Have a great week! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIQWAWUvJPk

Students will receive their Welcome Back Bag with all of the materials and resources they will need to start the school year Monday! It will be a drive through pick up and we ask that you wear a mask and bring your own pen to fill out any forms that still need to be completed. If you requested a device last week, you will be able to pick it up at Door 7 on Oliver Street. Pick up hours are 9-12 and 1-4. ALL students must pick up their Welcome Back Bag so they are ready to roll on Monday morning! See you tomorrow!
