College Go Week is the week of September 20th. Special activities and events are planned to emphasis the importance of preparing for the future! The following "Dress Days" are planned for next week: Monday - "Stepping into Success"- Crazy Sock Day Tuesday - "Military Appreciation Day"- Wear Camouflage Wednesday - " Off to College" - Wear your favorite College Shirt Thursday - "Our Future is Bright"- Wear Neon Colors Friday - "Our Future Starts Here"- Wear School Spirit Clothing Please refer to page. 20 of the student handbook for dress code expectations on dress down days .

Attn Seniors: Whiting High School has partnered with INvestEd to host a Financial Aid Night for our parents/students on Tuesday, September 21st at 7pm (CT) in the high school library (Enter at Door 23). The discussion will center on the importance of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), comparing college costs, & the FSA ID. We look forward to seeing you!

Good evening. This is Jim Polite, principal of Whiting High School. This message is for all Whiting Students that attend a program at the Hammond Area Career Center. Please be advised that all Hammond Area Career Center students will be participating in an e-learning day tomorrow, August 30th. Whiting High School students are still expected to attend their courses at Whiting during their normal scheduled time. The AM Hammond Area Career Center Students need to report to Whiting in time for their normally scheduled afternoon classes. The Whiting students that normally attend the PM session will be dismissed from Whiting following their 4th period class.

Whiting High School has partnered with INvestEd to host a College Prep/Early Awareness Night on Thursday, August 26th at 6pm. The presentation will give students & families tools to help with finding the right major/career, selecting the right college, maximizing FREE money like scholarships & grants, understanding college costs with net price calculators and the impacts of social media on college admission & scholarship decisions. Enter at the auditorium doors (Door 18) on New York Ave. All are welcome to attend! Seniors- the Lily Endowment Scholarship application is open until September 15th. There is a virtual help session taking place today, Tuesday, August 24th to answer any questions you may have about the process. The event information has been posted in the Class of 2022 Google Classroom or you can see Ms. Daniels is you have any questions.

Attention Seniors: Credit recovery for seniors only will start next Monday, August 23rd. The guidance department will be speaking individually to these seniors that need to stay starting on the 23rd. Students in grades 11 and 10 that need credit recovery will be starting at a later date to be announced.

Attention WHS Students: We look forward to seeing all of you on Thursday! Please use the following doors to enter on Thursday at 7:35am: Grades 12 and 11- Door 7, Grade 10 - Door 22 and Grade 9- Door 23. All students will receive an updated schedule upon entering the building. Students will NOT report to homeroom. Students will report directly to their 1st hour class after receiving their schedule.

Attention all WHS Students: Pierogi Fest will be held on Friday, July 23, Saturday, July 24, and Sunday, July 25. The Chamber of Commerce is looking for high school students to volunteer. Not only will you be helping your community, but also adding valuable volunteer activities for scholarship and college applications. To volunteer, please stop in the Chamber office or call 659-0292. Graduation tickets for senior families will be available June 9-11 from 8-2 in the high school office. Tickets must be picked up and signed for. if you are in need of handicap parking for graduation day please reach out to the office by June 4 so that we can include this with your tickets. In addition make sure you verify with the high school office that your student will be taking part in the day's events.

Be sure to check the news section of our web site to check out the students of the month for April, 2021. Stay up to date on things happening at WHS by checking out the upcoming events in the same section. Any student that is working as an in-person student and has borrowed a SCW Chromebook to use will need to return it to the high school office on May 10, 2021. Students should keep the device in their locker until they are called down to the office to turn it in.

Seniors that were unable to pick up their shirt/hoodie or Jostens order can call the high school office and schedule a time to come in and get those items. Items will be available from 2:50-3:30. A call must be made ahead of time so that we can gather all of the needed items.

Any student that ordered a senior sweatshirt from Mr. Liles or ordered items including your cap and gown from Jostens will be able to pick up their items on Wednesday, April 21 from 2:00-3:30 pm by the high school concession stand/door seven (7) on Oliver Street. In order to pick up items from Jostens, you must be paid in full. You can do this by visiting their web site at www.jostens.com. Memory Makers will be having a make up day for seniors only. This will take place on May 10th from 4pm-5pm at their studio on 119th Street. Students must call and schedule an appointment. You can call 219-659-2042.

9, 10, and 11th graders that are in person will take their pictures tomorrow during the day. Students can dress up for pictures. No jeans and the dress code needs to be followed.

Nathan Hale, WMS, and WHS are doing a dress down day for Whiting's YMCA on Friday, 3/26. Students can pay $1 to their 1st hour teacher and can dress down for the day. Students must follow dress down expectations in our handbook.

As a reminder, 3/10 is an eLearning day for all SCW students. Classwork and attendance questions are posted by 8 am and attendance questions need to be done by 3 pm. Teachers are available for help from 9-10 and 12:30-1:30 via Google Meet. Students should check Google Classroom.

Tomorrow all SCW students are encouraged to show their pride for SCW by wearing green and white. Students are permitted to wear jeans. Bring your school spirit to school whether you are here or working in Meet. Students must follow dress code requirements for dress down days.

STRACK & VANTIL RECEIPTS COLLECTION Whiting PTO will be at the football parking lot Thurs, 3/4 from 7:15 am -8:30 am and 2:15 pm – 3:30 pm and Sat, 3/6 from 10:00 am -12:00 pm. All receipts dated from 9/1/20 through 3/1/21 from any Strack & Vantil location will be collected.
