2026-2027 Electronic Device Header Graphic

As of July 1, 2026, Indiana law requires schools to prohibit student use of personal wireless devices during the school day. We wanted to share this reminder as the new law officially takes effect today.

For School City of Whiting, this means:

✅ Cell phones must be turned off and stored in student lockers from arrival until dismissal.
✅ Smartwatches, AirPods, and other wireless earbuds must also be turned off and stored in lockers during the school day.
✅ Personal devices may be used before school, after school, on the bus, and during extracurricular activities, including athletics.

Exceptions apply only for:

• Approved medical needs
• IEP or 504 accommodations
• Situations required by law

Our goal is simple: to create classrooms where students can stay engaged, minimize distractions, and focus on learning.

Please review the student handbook for additional details including the consequences for not adhering to the policy.

Thank you to our students, families, and staff for your support as we implement this new statewide requirement.
