Whiting Middle/High School Uniformity of Color (UOC) Policy for 2026-2027
At Whiting Middle/High School, our Uniformity of Color (UOC) policy continues to promote school pride, reduce distractions, and create a positive learning environment where students can focus on what matters most—learning. The policy for the 2026-2027 school year remains the same as last year, with one important reminder regarding approved shirt colors. The complete dress code is outlined in the Student Handbook.
A Reminder About Black Shirts
During the 2025-2026 school year, Whiting Middle/High School temporarily allowed black spirit wear tops as a courtesy to families who had recently purchased legacy apparel before the updated Uniformity of Color policy was implemented.
That temporary accommodation has now ended.
Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, black is NOT an approved top color. Students should not wear black polos, T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, sweaters, or other tops during the school day, even if they display Whiting logos or athletic designs.
Approved top colors are:
White
Whiting Green
Grey (Spirit Wear only)

Approved Uniform Guidelines
Shirts
Students may wear:
Solid white or Whiting green polo or oxford shirts
Long or short sleeves
Small brand logos (no larger than 4 inches)
Approved spirit wear T-shirts in white, green, or grey
Not permitted:
Black tops
Crop tops
Tank tops
Camisoles
Non-spirit wear T-shirts
Spirit Wear
Approved spirit wear includes clothing representing:
Whiting Oilers
School athletics
School clubs and organizations
Spirit wear must be approved by the building principal and must follow the approved color guidelines of white, green, or grey tops.
Sweaters, Sweatshirts, and Hoodies
Students may wear:
Solid white or Whiting green
Grey hoodies if they are approved spirit wear
Students must wear an approved shirt underneath, and hoods may not be worn while inside the building. Coats and other outerwear are not permitted during the school day.
Pants, Shorts, Skirts, and Capris
Approved colors include:
Khaki
Navy
Black
Grey
Additional requirements:
Clothing must fit appropriately.
No denim or pajama pants.
Shorts and skirts must be at least mid-thigh in length.
Shorts may only be worn from the first day of school through October 1 and again from May 1 through the last student day.
Shoes
Students must wear:
Closed-toe casual or athletic shoes
Shoes with both a closed front and solid back
Not permitted:
Sandals
Flip-flops
Clogs
Slippers
Students wearing snow boots should bring a change of shoes for the school day.
General Dress Expectations
Students should also remember:
Clothing must fit properly and be in good condition.
Clothing with holes or tears is not permitted.
Clothing may not display inappropriate images or messages.
Head coverings and sunglasses are not permitted unless approved.
Hairstyles, tattoos, and piercings should not create a disruption to the educational environment.
Dress Down Days
Dress down days will continue throughout the year as determined by the school. On those days:
General dress guidelines still apply.
Students participating in the theme may do so.
Students not participating in the theme must continue wearing approved Uniformity of Color attire.
Dress code violations on dress down days accumulate just like any other dress code violation.
