School City of Whiting Statement Regarding Reported Incident

School City of Whiting is aware of inaccurate information circulating regarding a report made by a student involving inappropriate comments.

On Friday morning, September 11, 2026, a student reported to a teacher that an individual who is not an employee of School City of Whiting had previously made inappropriate remarks to the student. School officials immediately contacted law enforcement upon receiving the report.

We want to be clear that the reported incident was not related to School City of Whiting, did not occur on school property, and did not occur during the school day or as part of a school-sponsored activity. The individual identified in the student's report is not a School City of Whiting or Whiting Middle/High School staff member.

The school's involvement began when the student shared the concern with a teacher on Friday morning. At that point, school officials acted immediately to ensure the report was appropriately referred to law enforcement.

Because this matter involves a student and has been referred to law enforcement, School City of Whiting will not release additional details regarding the student, the individual involved, or the circumstances surrounding the report.

The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. We take any concern brought to our attention seriously and will continue to respond promptly and appropriately when students seek assistance from trusted adults at school.

This statement is being issued to provide accurate information and to correct the false narrative that the reported conduct involved a School City of Whiting employee or occurred in connection with the school.
