Early Release Day
Good morning!
Last evening you should have received a message regarding a change to the date for the start of school. Due to the storms and outages, I know cell phone service was not working for some, so I wanted to share the message again in the event you didn't receive it last night.

Dear School City of Whiting Families and Students,
Due to today’s severe weather event and the significant impacts experienced throughout Northwest Indiana, the School City of Whiting has made the decision to postpone the first day of school for students until Monday, August 17.
We know that members of our community are dealing with a variety of circumstances following the storm, including power outages, property damage, difficult travel conditions, and other disruptions. Moving the start of school to Monday will provide our families and staff additional time to address these needs while allowing our schools to complete preparations to safely welcome students back.
Our previously scheduled Back-to-School Night will now be a Meet the Teacher Night on Monday, August 17, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. Additional details about the evening will be shared by our schools.
We understand that families may have additional questions regarding transportation, extracurricular activities, schedules, and other school operations. Additional communication will be forthcoming, and we encourage families to continue monitoring official School City of Whiting communications for updates.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as our community responds to this significant weather event. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, families, and broader community remain our highest priority.
Please stay safe, take care of one another, and we look forward to welcoming our students on Monday, August 17.

This is Ms. Pearson at Nathan Hale with a reminder to pick up your child's information and packet from the Nathan Hale office. We still have several packets that have not been picked up. You MUST come in to pick up your child's packet, which has important information for the upcoming school year. Please come in before 3:00 today or call the office. Teachers return tomorrow and it's a busy time, so please come in as soon as possible to make sure your child is registered and ready to go!

School is right around the corner and we are excited to welcome you back! For all returning students, you MUST register online through the Skyward Parent Access, found on the SCW website. Go to www.whiting.k12.in.us to register. You should have already received an email with your child's login information. If you do not register before our in-person packet pickup next week, you will have to complete the process online when you come in. Computers will be available, but it does take awhile to complete the process, so please allow plenty of time if you don't complete it ahead of time.

Computers for completing the process will only be available on the August 3rd and August 5th dates. If you are coming into the school office to pick up your packet on August 4th or August 6th, you must have already completed the online registration. For all four dates, you will need to bring original documentation to show proof of residency . Please bring any current medical records or proof of immunizations that weren't submitted online, as well. The nurse will be available should you have any questions.

As a reminder, August 3rd and August 5th times are 1:00 - 3:45 pm and 5:00 - 6:45 pm and you will enter through Door 10. If you come on August 4th or August 6th, you will enter through our NH main door, Door 4. Those hours are 8:00 am - 2:00 pm. We look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day and since our school colors are already green, it's an easy day to dress up for! The Nathan Hale class that wears the most SCW green Oiler shirts/sweatshirts will get a special treat from the leprechaun!
It is NOT a dress down day, so students should be in regular pants and uniformity of color.

The sun finally came out and it warmed up to almost 30 today so we were able to go outside for recess! Unfortunately, we had several students who chose not to wear winter coats today who had to stay in. While 30 degrees is warm enough to be outside to play, it's not warm enough if students are not wearing appropriate jackets. Please make sure students are wearing their winter coats to school. If the real feel temperature is under 45, students must have a winter jacket to go outside.
Thanks to donations from both Baran Funeral Home and Brian Andreshak and his Share the Warmth Coat Drive, all students who needed a winter coat were able to get one before the cold weather came in December. If anyone still needs one, we still have a few available so reach out to the Nathan Hale Office.

Tomorrow, Thursday, February 12th, students can wear a fun Valentine's Day shirt or pink, or red with any school appropriate bottoms, including jeans (without holes or tears). If students are not dressing in Valentine's Day shirts, they should be in regular uniformity of color.
Also, don't forget Friday and Monday we are not in school in celebration of President's Day. Enjoy your long four day weekend and we will see you on Tuesday, February 17th!
